What changes have you seen in mental health over the past year?
Mental health is at the forefront of the COVID-19 Pandemic. The virus is not only impacting our physical health but also our psychological wellbeing. Grief from the loss of loved ones, uncertainly about the economy, restrictions, and isolation have wreaked havoc on our mental health. Accessing a therapist is now easier than ever through our virtual platform. I believe the stigma of mental health is now less prominent as everyone realizes how important it is to reach out to a professional and ask for help.
What makes San Antonio Counseling and Behavioral Center different from other counseling centers?
We take pride in providing quality mental health services in a way that is convenient for everyone in our community. We have locations all over the city that make it convenient for people to access a therapist near their home. San Antonio Counseling and Behavioral Center now has over 75 therapists, both in-office or online. We can also provide mental health services to individuals living in rural communities who have limited access to therapists and psychologists.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
I see myself continuing to provide mental health services to our community and throughout the state of Texas. Eventually, I want to provide these same services to others around the country. I have been blessed and hope to continue to serve my community and help those around me.

What do you enjoy most about your job?
I enjoy making people’s lives one day better by making mental health services easily accessible to everyone. I started the practice in 2010 as a solo clinician in McAllen, Texas, and moved to San Antonio in 2014. It has been a great honor to be able to help so many people in our community struggling with life’s challenges.
What is the best advice you ever received?
The best advice that I have ever received was from watching my mother, a strong immigrant woman who raised three children on her own. She taught her children that there was nothing in life we could not achieve if we worked hard and focused on helping others.
Who has been your most significant influence, and why?
I have had several people in my life that have influenced me professionally and personally. Their wisdom and advice have shaped how I view the world and how I show up in life every day. I stay curious and open to learning every day from those around me.
