Do you find yourself wondering if you will ever feel like yourself again? Somewhere along the path of raising a family, growing your business, or climbing the corporate ladder, you realized that you just don’t feel like yourself anymore. Your body isn’t holding up the way it once did, and you start to question if you are going to feel like this forever.

First of all, you aren’t alone! These are common feelings that I see and hear about from my clients every single day. When you really think about it, your body has been through a lot! Pregnancy, postpartum, balancing work and motherhood. These are all phases that deplete nutrient stores and energy reservoirs. As a high-responsibility woman, you’ve most likely taken it upon yourself to do everything you can to get the job done, even at the cost of your own health.

But feeling like yourself again isn’t as simple as what people say. In fact, there are many factors working together to help your body run. This is exactly why one supplement, diet, or workout regimen didn’t solve all of your problems. Let’s break down the biggest misconception of hormone health and what you need to start feeling like yourself again.

The first things that come to women’s minds about hormones are estrogen and progesterone. And yes, they are two main components, but they aren’t the only ones. I want you to visualize an orchestra. Within the orchestra, there are many players, but those players all have different roles. There are strings, percussion, woodwinds, and many others. Each playing a distinct but vital role. Your hormones are the same: cortisol, progesterone, testosterone, and estrogen work together. But even beyond this small system, your hormones are interacting with other hormones in what is called the Endocrine system. This is made up of even more hormones such as insulin, cortisol, and thyroid hormone. You can’t create balance without looking at every player involved.

One of the biggest mistakes women make is assuming their body should respond the same way it did ten or twenty years ago. The truth is that your physiology changes throughout your life. The strategies that worked in your twenties may not work in your forties, and what supported you before children may not support you after years of balancing work, family, and countless responsibilities. That’s why the answer is rarely doing more. It’s understanding what your body needs now, creating a strategy that matches the season you’re in, and having an expert to guide you along the way.

The good news in all of this is that it isn’t in your head. There is a reason you feel exhausted, overwhelmed, and not like yourself. If you find yourself thinking “nothing works for me”, rest assured that that isn’t the case. It’s most likely that your body just needs something different.
