How One Family Business Is Continuing 91 Years of Tradition While Shaping What Comes Next

For 91 years, this business has been rooted in hard work, meaningful relationships, and the community we have been proud to serve.
Hicks Flooring has been in my family for five generations, built through decades of hard work, resilience, and leadership from those before me. Today, I have the opportunity to step into that legacy as the fifth generation and the first woman in my family line to help lead the business forward. That is not something I take lightly. Stepping into this role has given me a new perspective on both the business and the responsibility that comes with it.
What I have come to realize is that this business has never really been about flooring. It is about people. It is about relationships. It is about showing up for someone during moments that matter, whether they are building a home, creating a space that finally feels like theirs, or starting over after something unexpected.
That perspective shapes everything I do. It influences how I lead our team, how I communicate with clients, and how I think about the long-term direction of our business.
In the past, construction may have been a male-dominated industry, but I do not see that as something that limits me. If anything, it has created space for a different kind of leadership, one that values communication, organization, and a thoughtful, elevated customer experience. Those qualities are not secondary in this industry. They are essential, and they are helping define where it is going.
I am especially proud of the team that stands behind our business. Our office includes strong, capable women who keep everything moving every single day. From scheduling and operations to customer communication and design, they are the foundation of what we do. Alongside them, our installers bring years of experience and craftsmanship, and together we create something that reflects both precision and care.
It takes all of us, and every role matters.
Creating an environment where people feel supported, respected, and valued is one of my top priorities. Whether it is our team, our partners, or our customers, relationships are at the center of everything we do. We are not focused on one transaction. We are focused on building trust that lasts.
That same mindset carries into every project. Flooring can feel overwhelming, and my goal is always to make the process feel simple, clear, and personal. We take the time to understand how people live so we can guide them toward decisions that truly fit their lifestyle, not just what looks good in a showroom.
For women considering a career in construction or home services, my advice is simple. There is space for you here. This industry is evolving, and women are playing a bigger role in shaping where it is going. There is so much opportunity to grow, to lead, and to make a meaningful impact.
As we celebrate 91 years in business, I am focused on what comes next, continuing to grow, continuing to serve our community, and continuing to lead in a way that reflects both where we have been and where we are going.
At the end of the day, we are not just in the flooring business. We are in the business of people, and that is the legacy I am proud to carry forward for the next generation.
